The Bearcat Bowling team is beginning to heat up at the right time as they prepare to take on the top 14 teams in the state across all classifications in the prestigious Tower Classic Tournament this weekend.
"We are excited about bowling in the Tower Classic again,” head coach Don Bunker said. “It is a very good test of where we are as we head towards the playoffs.”
The Bearcats are the defending champions of the last Tower Classic.
The Bearcats have been consistently shooting over 2000 pins since they have been bowling with their entire varsity team.
"I like where our team is at right now,” Bunker said. “We are still improving in every match, building momentum and our team has been very focused at practice.”
The Bearcats downed the Centralia Tigers Thursday night at Fairway Lanes 2068 total pins to the Tigers 1581. In game one the Bearcats were led by junior Tyran Ozretich's 201 game and Piper Chalmers' 213 game. The Bearcats Clara Bunker also rolled a 180.
Centralia's Baliee Spriggs led the Tigers with a 181 and Jimena Luis added a solid 169 game.
"Tyran really bowled great for us tonight,” assistant coach Rich Bunker said. “She is really working hard at practice improving her release and it is paying off for her.”
In game two the Bearcats defeated the Tigers again 855 to 633 behind another strong performance from Ozretich’ 183 and Chalmers' 208. The Tigers’ Spriggs led all bowlers in game two with a 212 game.
"Baliee bowled well tonight and has been having a great season for the Tigers' brand-new program,” Don Bunker said. “The Tigers have a great coaching staff and their team is improving quickly.”
The Bearcats begin Bowling at Tower Lanes in Tacoma at 9 a.m. Saturday.
