W.F. West had no trouble taking care of business Wednesday, bashing Black Hills 15-1 in five innings to secure second place in the 2A Evergreen Conference during its regular-season finale at home.

The Bearcats and Shelton each finish the season with three league losses, but the Bearcats own the head-to-head tiebreaker after defeating the Highclimbers twice.

On Wednesday, the Bearcats used a seven-run third inning to pull away from the Wolves. Junior Gavin Fugate was on fire at the plate, going 2 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs. Ross Kelley and Riggs Westlund each scored three times and Deacon Meller was 1 for 3 with two runs.

Logan Moore tossed a complete-game gem, striking out seven while allowing one earned run on just two hits and three walks to earn the win.

Derek Clark took the loss for the Wolves, allowing five earned runs on three hits and no walks with two Ks across two innings of work. Max Johnson led the offense by going 1 for 2 with a run. Alex Shepler had the Wolves’ other base hit.

Black Hills now faces Rochester on Saturday for the EvCo’s fourth and final spot in the playoffs, which is a pigtail game with the Greater St. Helen’s League’s (GSHL) fifth seed.

W.F. West is off until 4 p.m. Tuesday when it hosts the GSHL’s No. 3 seed in a district opener.
