Bail is set at $50,000 for a man accused of strangling and beating a woman while armed with a knife in Centralia on Tuesday.
Jeremy Scott Fredrickson, 31, of Chehalis, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail at approximately 4:22 p.m. on April 1, several hours after deputies with the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report that a woman was screaming in a travel trailer in the 1500 block of North Pearl Street.
The reporting party said they saw a man armed with a knife leave the trailer and run into the nearby woods. Soon after, a woman exited the trailer and said she wanted to report a domestic violence situation, according to charging documents filed in Lewis County Superior Court on Wednesday.
The woman told responding deputies that Fredrickson was acting “erratically and was cutting himself with a knife and hitting himself” when he arrived at her trailer the previous evening, according to court documents. She reported that she started packing up to leave at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday morning to get away from Fredrickson, but Fredrickson allegedly “became upset with her wanting to leave” and attacked her.
Fredrickson allegedly “grabbed her around the neck and held her down on the bed” when she tried to push past him to leave the trailer. The woman reported that Fredrickson “squeezed her neck until she started to see stars” and said “she completely lost the ability to breathe” before she fought her way out of the chokehold.
Fredrickson then allegedly “punched her multiple times with a closed fist in the back” until the woman started screaming, at which point “he quickly ran out of the trailer into the woods,” according to court documents.
The woman reportedly had visible bruising to the right side of her neck and chin when deputies arrived. She was ultimately transported to the hospital for medical treatment.
Deputies “searched the woods for Fredrickson but were unable to locate him after searching for hours,” according to documents. Officers with the Centralia Police Department ultimately located and detained Fredrickson later that day.
When questioned by a deputy, Fredrickson allegedly said he and the woman were arguing and said he “got upset when (the victim) spat at him while yelling.” He allegedly said “in order to get her to stop yelling, he grabbed her by the throat and squeezed, pressing her against the bed,” according to court documents.
When asked how hard he squeezed the victim’s throat, Fredrickson allegedly said “with enough force, I guess.”
He allegedly said he “ran out of the back of the property out of fear because he heard sirens in the distance and knew it was for him,” saying “he was scared to face the repercussions of his actions,” according to court documents.
After he was transported to the jail, Fredrickson allegedly accused the victim of assaulting him and said he had an injury to his neck, “but (the deputy) only saw a slight redness,” according to court documents. He allegedly refused to allow the deputy to take a photo of the area he said was injured.
Fredrickson was charged Wednesday, April 2, in Lewis County Superior Court with one count each of second-degree assault, domestic violence, and fourth-degree assault, domestic violence.
Arraignment is scheduled for Thursday, April 10.
