The Adna boys basketball team capped the Adna Holiday Tournament on a high note, handing Tumwater its first loss by beating the T-Birds 58-50.
“This was a really great game for us,” Adna coach Luke Salme said. “Tumwater is a very good, physical, and well-coached team. For us to grind out a game for 32 minutes with them and find a way to win says a lot about these kids.”
The Pirates led 18-14 after one, but scored just five points in the second to enter the locker room trailing.
In the second half, Gavan Muller went to work, scoring 14 of his game-high 22 points to help the Pirates put up 35 points in the final two frames. Jackson Knittle added 14 points, including eight in the first quarter.
Grayson Humphrey hit a pair of threes en route to his eight-point night, and Trevin Salme also hit a three and finished with eight points.
“They were really gritty and tough, all of them,” Luke Salme said of his team. “And that wins game.”
Jake Dillon and Braeden Konrad led the T-Birds with 12 points apiece, and Sahara Anthony added nine points and six assists.
Luke Overbay was unstoppable on the boards for much of the night, hauling in 14 rebounds (11 offensive), and Bryce Morgan added five assists, four steals, and two points.
Tumwater (4-1) will look to bounce back at home against Evergreen on Monday, while Adna (8-2, 5-0 C2BL) is off until Friday, when it will head to Mossyrock for a league matchup.
