Adna downs Cle Elum-Roslyn in final non-league test

The Adna girls basketball team played its final non-league game of the season on Saturday, and the Pirates came away with a 53-45 victory over Cle Elum-Roslyn.

Three of the four quarters were decided by just one point, but Adna was able to hold the Warriors to just seven points in the second to build an eight-point halftime lead.

The Pirate defense finished the job in the second half, forcing 27 total turnovers and holding Cle Elum-Roslyn to its lowest point total of the season.

“We had a great defensive effort today,” Adna coach Chris Bannish said.

Karsyn Freeman led the Pirates with 20 points, while Gaby Guard added 10 points and brought down six rebounds.

McKenna Torrey and Bailey Chapman both added nine, and Chapman also blocked four shots and nabbed five steals. Kendall Humphrey tallied five assists, five rebounds, and a pair of points.

The Warriors were Adna’s final test outside of league play, and they were the only 2B opponent that the Pirates have played in non-league action. Adna finishes its non-league slate 11-1, with its only loss coming against 3A White River, which is 18-2.

“I am proud of the way we have responded to this non-league schedule,” Bannish said. “My kids have chosen to work extremely hard day in and day out, and now it’s time to get geared up for the stretch run.”

Anda (18-1, 7-0 C2BL) will look to finish its league season unbeaten and wrap up a league title in their final regular season game at home against Morton-White Pass.
