Adna clips upset-minded Onalaska

The Pirates came away with the last defensive stand of the night and remained alive for a chance at an outright C2BL title by upending the loggers 65-63 on Friday night at home.

If Napavine beats Rainier on Saturday, then Wednesday's showdown between the Tigers and Pirates in Napavine will give the winner the inside track at the No. 1 seed for the Class 2B District 4 tournament.

Adna (15-3, 12-1 C2BL) got a lift inside from 6-foot-5 forward Jackson Knittle and his team-high 16 points while Trevin Salme added 13 and Gavan Muller plus Grayson Humphrey scored 12 points apiece. The Pirates were down six at the half and one entering the fourth quarter.

The first meeting between the two sides was also a single-digit final. Onalaska (8-10, 6-8) nearly had enough to spring the upset. Blaze Underhill finished with 16 points while Nick Rushton and Justin Jacoby recorded 13 each.

“Defensively, it is the most connected we’ve been all year,” Loggers head coach Fred Sturza said. “We left that game feeling like we can compete with the top teams in the league, so that’s a big confidence boost.”
