Daniel Meyer, an Adna 14-year-old, caught a monstrous largemouth bass last week at Fort Borst Park Pond, coming in at 10.19 pounds. The state record is 12.53 pounds.

“I’ve been fishing my whole life and I caught my first fish when I was 8 months old,” Meyer told The Chronicle.

The local teen was fishing with his regular fishing buddy, 75-year-old Elvin Hirchert, who says Meyer helps him carry his equipment and set up camp, since health issues and age have made him less mobile.

“We just get along real good,” Hirchert said. “Some people fish all their lifetime and they don’t get a fish that size. That’s a trophy-winner. It shocked me.”

Fort Borst Park Pond is stocked with rainbow trout, but not bass, making the catch even more impressive.
