Nearly 11 months after the Pirates and Cougars tussled in the Class 2B state championship contest, the rematch on Saturday afternoon in Warden was a rout. Adna used an eight-run second inning to run away from Warden 14-2 in five innings.
The Pirates tacked on six more in the fourth to enact the run-rule win. All 14 runs were unanswered after Warden struck first with two in the first.
Hadleigh Gerard tied the game with an RBI single, Teagan Baggenstos gave Adna the lead with a bases loaded walk and Gaby Guard pushed across two with a base hit. The inning was capped with an error that plated the last two runs.
Gerard also had a two-run double in the fourth, part of a 3-for-5 day at the plate. Danika Hallom notched two hits and drove in a pair of runs. Baggenstos struck out four in a complete game win.
The second game of the day was an error-fest for Adna, nine of them leading to zero earned runs against Avery LaFontaine in an 8-1 loss to Class 1A Royal. Seven different Pirates had at least one error.
The Knights plated two runs in the bottom of the first and a six-spot in the third put the game out of reach. Hallom added two more hits for the Pirates (5-3) while Kendall Humphrey drove in the lone run in the sixth inning.
Adna opens up C2BL action on Monday at Mossyrock.
