The Oakville baseball team won big for the second straight game to open up its spring, downing Pope John Paul II 17-4 in five innings.

The Acorns scored one run in the first before dropping a seven-spot in the top of the third, then adding nine more in the fifth to get the game to run-rule territory.

Tre Groninger went four innings in the start, striking out 10 and giving up two runs — one earned — on a hit and two walks. He also went 2 for 3 at the plate with a triple, two walks, two runs scored, and one driven in. A spot ahead of him in the order, Daniel Rodas finished a home run shy of the cycle, going 3 for 4 with a double, a triple, a walk, and four runs scored.

Oakville will take on Ocosta in its home opener Friday.
