Acorns Down Cardinals in Season Opener

Led by a strong performance on the mound from Daniel Rodas, the Oakville baseball team defeated Winlock Tuesday afternoon on the road, 9-1. 

Rodas threw six innings, allowing just the one run with 10 strikeouts, three hits and three walks. Tre Groninger added two more strikeouts in the seventh. 

At the plate, Tre Groninger logged two hits and two RBIs and scored another run, with Rodas adding a 2 for 4 line with two runs scored and a run batted in. 

Winlock had a tough day on the mound, but Kyrin Meehan stepped in from the bullpen and pitched 2 ⅔ scoreless innings with five strikeouts to keep the Cards in the mix for a bit. Cooper Robinette went 1 for 3 with an RBI and Cusson went 1 for 3 with a run scored for Winlock. 

The Acorns head out on the road on Thursday for a matchup against Pope John Paul II at 4 p.m. while Winlock plays Adna in a doubleheader next Monday starting at 3 p.m.
