2B Girls Soccer: Loggers Fall to Kalama in District Championship

Posted

For the third time this season, Onalaska and Kalama played to a 90-minute standstill and settled the game in a shootout.

On Thursday night, though, the Chinooks were more accurate from the penalty marker.

Kalama, playing on its home turf, topped Onalaska 3-2 in the 2B District 4 soccer championship — avenging a shootout loss to the Loggers from just six days earlier in a Central 2B League South Division game.

Melanie Martinez scored both goals for Kalama, the first in the 37th minute and the second in the 55th minute.

Brooklyn Sandridge scored in first-half stoppage time for Onalaska to even the game at 1-1 in the intermission, and Callie Lawrence added a goal in the 59th minute that tied things up at 2-2 and forced the eventual overtime periods.

In the shootout, however, each team hit two of its first five attempts, with the Chinooks converting on their sixth attempt and the Loggers coming up short.

Lawrence and Sandridge also notched the Loggers’ two shootout goals, and the Loggers were forced to finish the game short a player after a second-half red card.

Onalaska finished the season with an 8-2 record. It was the final game for Onalaska’s Savannah Gifford, the lone senior on the Logger roster.
