Cards Host First-Ever Golf Match

It was a momentous day for the Winlock boys golf team Monday as the Cardinals hosted their first-ever golf meet at Newaukum Valley Golf Course.

“Big shout out to Newaukum Valley for being a great partner to us,” Winlock athletic director Nick Bamer said. “It was a gorgeous day in the Chehalis River Valley, but the golfers had to battle some strong and steady winds, and the pristine putting surface was a little quicker than most were used to.”

Joe Welch shot a 48 for the Cardinals, who did not have enough players to register a team score, while Preston Davis finished with a 53 in his varsity debut.

Wahkiakum won the five-team meet with 204 points. North Beach was second with 201. Columbia Adventis and Mary M. Knight only had one golfer each and did not score team points.
