The Tumwater and W.F. West cross country teams went west Wednesday, joining Shelton and Aberdeen at Makarenko park for a league meet.
Tumwater won both team events, despite not winning either individual crown. In the boys’ race, the T-Birds did it by stacking the finishes after first. Reis Howell (19:49.48) took second behind Aberdeen’s Henry Nelson, while Alan Penrose III (17:54.51) was third, Joshua Morgan (18:01.39) was fourth and Malaki Jenkins (18:19.38) was fifth, and Benjamin Ferrel (18:31.6) was eighth to round out the team scores.
W.F. West was led by Ezra Birchard, who placed seventh in 18:22.70.
In the girls’ race, Aberdeen took two of the three top spots, but Tumwater’s depth won the day, with Annabelle Clapp (20:36.88) in fourth, Alexandra Broome (21:10.79) in fifth, Olivia Ahrens (22:16.19) in seventh, Raegan Smith (22:32.48) in eighth and Jesse Brumbaigh (23:00.48) in 11th. W.F. West’s Jane Birchard led the Bearcats in 14th with a time of 25:23.86, while Loren Kattenbraker finished in 25:50.01 to take 16th.
