2A Track Roundup: Tumwater Girls Repeat As 2A Team Champs

Led by seven more placers Saturday on the final day of the 2A Track and Field Championships at Mount Tahoma Stadium in Tacoma, the Tumwater girls team repeated as team champions. 

The Thunderbirds got it all done on the track Saturday, with the girls 4x200 starting the day with a first-place finish in 1:43.55 with a team of Cassidy Hedin, Annabelle Clapp, Reese Heryford, and Ava Jones. 

Clapp would come back to take first in the 400m in 59.10 and third in the 800m in 2:17.88.

Jones would also place in two individual events, taking sixth in the 100m in 12.80 and second in the 200m in 26.08. 

Finally, Reese Heryford also placed in the 400m, finishing fifth in 1:00.74. 



The girls 4x400 team of Hedin, Jones, Heryford, and Clapp also won a state title in 4:02.40. 

On the boys side, the 4x400 team of Josh Schlecht, Blake Kirkpatrick, Christian Schlecht, and Reis Howell finished third in 3:24.17. 

Elsewhere, W.F. West, after winning the girls javelin title earlier this weekend, also took the boys title, with Lucas Hoff tossing a career-best 166 feet, 9 inches to win the title. 

Ashley Harris of Black Hills took third in the girls shot put (37 feet, 6 inches), and Rochester’s Ashton Rodriguez finished eighth in the 100-meter finals in 11.26.
