2A Track: Bearcat Girls Take Shelton Invite

W.F. West girls held off Tumwater, 178-169, to edge Tumwater for the Shelton Invite title, which included six 2A Evergreen Conference teams (all but Centralia).

The meet is basically an unsanctioned sub-district tournament used as a tuneup for the upcoming district meet.

W.F. West’s Seth Hoff was named the Male Athlete of the Meet after scoring 28 team points with one first-place finish and three runner-up finishes. Hoff won the javelin (171-06) and placed second in the high jump with a PR of (6-0), the long jump with a PR of (20-02.5) and ran a leg in the 4x100 relay.

Coaches of the Year were Tumwater boys coach Rich Broan and W.F. West’s Autumn Ledgerwood for the girls.

The Bearcat girls used some big performances to capture the team meet, led by victories in both the 4x100 and 4x200 relays. The 4x100 included Audrey Toynbee, Amelia Etue, Kelly Robertson and Hodaya Starr.  The 4x200 included Brenna Witchey, Etue, Starr and Robertson.

“The score was tight going into the 4x400 relay, but we knew even with Tumwater winning that relay that we had enough depth in the girls triple jump to sweep second through sixth, which gave us the overall win,” Ledgerwood said.

Brianna Powe was first in the discus with a toss of 90-01, winning by 10 feet.

“Brianna has been consistently performing well, and to finish our regular season with this win was well deserved,” Ledgerwood said.

For W.F. West boys, Connor Russell was a double winner in the 110 and 300 hurdles, winning by almost 1.5 seconds in both races. Dakota Collins won the pole vault (11-00) and Bryson Boyd had a three-foot PR in the shot put (44-09).

For Rochester boys, Talon Betts was a double winner in the 100-meter dash (11.61) and the 200 (23.13).
