Seth Hoff led W.F. West track and field in its season-opening meet Saturday, winning the boys long jump (19-05.50), high jump (5-08) and javelin (158-02) in dual meet in Tumwater. Hoff’s distances in the javelin and long jump were both PRs.

Tumwater won the boys meet 85-60 over W.F. West. Other top finishers for the Bearcats included senior Connor Russell, a state hurdle competitor in 2019, who swept both hurdles races on Saturday. Russell won the 110-meter hurdles in 15.95, and won the 300-meter hurdles in 42.52.

Bryson Boyd was also a double winner in the shot put (41-00) and discus (115-09), throwing new personal bests in both events.

He has so much left,” W.F. West coach Autumn Ledgerwood said. “It will be exciting to see what he does this season.”

Other top boys performers were Charlie Mallonee, who won the 400-meter dash in 56.68 and Dakota Collins, who won the pole vault personal-best leap of 9-06. Ryan Hirte placed second in the 100-meter dash (12.33), Darren Gray placed second in the javelin (123-05), Elijah Annonen was second in the pole vault (8-00) and both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays finished second.

On the girls side, Tumwater won the meet 83-62. Bearcat Kyla McCallum threw a personal best of 110-09 to win the javelin.

“Kyla has always progressed really well in the javelin, and to pop a good throw in the first meet of the season is well-deserved,” Ledgerwood said.

Audrey Toynbee won the 100-meter dash in 14.4 and was narrowly edged by one hundredth of a second in the 200-meter dash (30.53). Sophomore Cameron Sheets won the 100-meter hurdles (18.79) while Kelly Robertson captured the 300-meter hurdles (54.05).

The 4x200 relay also won, along with Brianna Powe in the discus (82-09), Emma Mencke in the high jump (4-00) and Savanna Bolivar in the triple jump (27-05.25). Bolivar placed second in the long jump (13-00.5) and freshman Zoey Robertson was second in the 400-meter dash (112.74).
