Wins by Liza Hopkins in the No. 1 singles match and Maddie Corwin and Maya O’Dell in the No. 1 doubles match weren't enough to push Centralia to victory as the Tigers fell, 4-2, on the road to Black Hills Tuesday.

“This was a tough match and both teams were dealing with gusty winds throughout the match,” Centralia coach Deb Keahey said. “Overall, I was really pleased with all the girls and their performance. They fought for every point and every game and it showed on the court.”

Singles

  • No.1 – Liza Hopkins (C) def. Janey Do (BH) (7-5, 7-5)
  • No. 2 – Makena Beeson (BH) def. Olivia Wiley (C) (6-1, 6-1)
  • No. 3 – Chloe Whitfield (BH) def. Nora Sass (C) (6-2, 6-1)

“Liza Hopkins had a hard-hitting match with Janey Do from Black Hills,” Keahey said.

Doubles

  • No. 1 - Maddie Corwin/Maya O’Dell (C) def. Sienna Moore/Athena Moore (BH)  (retired)
  1. No. 2 – Stella Moore/Aynsleigh Dragon(BH) def. Evie Rooklidge/Serena Stehr (C) (7-5, 6-3)
  2. No. 3 – Brittany Chapman/Alexa Hollandsworth(BH) def. Sophia Wiley/Emily Wilkerson (C) (1-6, 1-6)

“Maddie and Maya were down one set and had the momentum the second set when Black Hills had to retire,” Keahey said. “Evie and Serena played their first match and had a great showing at No. 2 doubles. Their scores were close and with more playing time, they will continue to get stronger.”

Centralia falls to 1-3 overall and hosts Twin City rival W.F. West on Wednesday.
