While the top of the Class 2A Evergreen Conference has been consistent for the last handful of years, the players have shined amongst the area contingent.
And there’s reason to believe that will continue for the 2024-25 season.
Of the 11 players named to the all-league first or second team, five of them are back as is the EvCo MVP in W.F. West forward Julia Dalan. Another five players that garnered honorable mention honors have also returned.
Dalan, a Portland commit, recently became the Bearcats all-time scoring leader two games into the season. She’s surrounded by a stout point guard in Amanda Bennett, a trio of sophomores and Tumwater transfer Rhylee Beebe.
Black Hills sophomore Tyler Venable was one of the best pure shooters from a year ago, averaging 14.6 points per game and clipping at close to 40 percent from downtown. Post Ellie Johnson hauled in 20 rebounds in the Wolves’ season-opening win.
Despite the loss of Beebe, Tumwater brings back double digit scorer Sydney Sumrok and will add 6-foot-1 post Dakota Cahill. Centralia’s Brooklyn Sprague was its leading scorer in a season-opening victory versus Hockinson.
W.F. West has had a stranglehold for the league title, but others have contended for deep playoff runs. Black Hills came a win away from state and Tumwater went two-and-done. The lone wild card is Centralia under year three of a rebuild, but coach Austin Danielson stated some early highlights have been from the freshmen and sophomore classes.
