There was not much W.F. West could do against Tumwater, one of the top football teams in the entire state, regardless of classification, in a 47-0 loss at home Saturday on Senior Day.
Tumwater (4-0), which features multiple Division-I recruits and perhaps the best defensive line in the state, made it tough sledding for the Bearcats (3-2).
“It’s a tough task to come in with 30 minutes of preparation to run an entire offense,” W.F. West coach Dan Hill said.
Senior Brit Lusk took over control of the offense behind center and was 6-for-20 passing for 58 yards. Carter McCoy led W.F. West with two catches for 39 yards. The Bearcats were able to gain just 62 total yards on the day compared to 295 for Tumwater.
“I was happy with the kids’ effort and response to emotional adversity,” Hill said. “They banded together and were brothers today. It was a collection of our boys coming together.”
W.F. West gets one final game in this season when it faces Clover Park at 7 p.m., Friday, at Harry E. Lang Stadium in Lakewood.
Centralia made too many mistakes and was unable to recover offensively in a 20-0 road loss to Aberdeen in 2A Evergreen Conference action on Saturday.
The Tigers, who fall to 1-3 on the season after beating Black Hills in their season opener, couldn’t sustain momentum, throwing an interception in the end zone and fumbling on the Bobcats’ 35-yard line.
“We had a couple costly turnovers,” Centralia coach Jeremy Thibault said. “It was pretty blah. We shot ourselves in the foot. We only had three running backs and one tight end. Aberdeen just played better.”
Centralia has one more shot at ending the season on a good note when it hosts league foe Elma at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
