1B Softball Preview: Southwest 1B League Will Once Again Run Through Naselle, Mossyrock

Posted

Just like in each of the last few seasons in the small Coastal 1B League, Mossyrock and Naselle will likely battle for a league and district championship this season with high stakes for the state playoffs later this spring.

The Vikings, returning a Division I commit to California State Bakersfield in Hailey Brooks, will look to ride their senior slugger to bigger heights this season after falling just short of the trip to state a year ago and dropping the district title to their rival Comets.

Brooks will again be a star for Mossy, and will likely see her fair share of intentional walks, the Vikings also return a steady arm in Erin Cournyer in the circle and some steady hitters in Chesney Schultz and Abbie Lovan.

The Comets, meanwhile, return plenty from a squad that finished fourth at the state tournament last season. Coastal 1B co-MVP Brynn Tarabochia is back, along with honorable mention pick Haley Eastham. Naselle did graduate three first-team all-league picks, but will almost assuredly reload with familiar names to compete once again for hardware at state.

The rest of the league is made up of Oakville and Wishkah Valley. The Acorns bring back honorable mention pick Alyssa Forsythe and will look to improve after a tough season a year ago.
