1A Volleyball: Beavers Improve in Sweeping Loss by Bobcats

Posted

TENINO It wasn’t the result Tenino volleyball wanted but the Beavers’ performance against Class 2A Aberdeen on Tuesday was night and day compared to their loss the night before against Class 1B Columbia Adventist.

The Beavers had Aberdeen pinned down in the first set, building a 22-17 lead but couldn’t close out, ultimately getting swept by the Bobcats (26-24, 25-21, 25-16) at home in non-league play.

“Disappointed for the girls, especially for the returners,” Tenino coach Wanda Blanksma said. “We were almost there but couldn’t quite finish.”

The Beavers were coming off a resounding loss at home to Columbia Adventists (25-7, 25-11, 25-10) the night before. But tonight, they came out firing, finishing with a 94% overall serving percentage.

“The girls came out much better with focus and energy,” Blanksma said. “Proud of their response.”

Sophomore setter Brooke Bratton and freshman outside Macy Griffis each led the team with 16 for 17 serving, while senior setter Malika Slassi finished with a team-high 15 assists.

Blanksma commended seniors Brittany Maynard and Raelynn Wilson for their improved performances at the net.

Blanksma said the team still needs to work on hitting the ball, collecting kills and finishing possessions.

The Beavers will get a chance to work on those when they host Rochester on Tuesday in a non-league match.
