It wasn’t the way Tenino coach Sam Whitney or the Beavers wanted to win, but an injury forfeit by Stevenson sealed Tenino’s 3-2 victory over the Bulldogs at home on Saturday.

Megan Letts stormed back from a 4-6 opening-set loss in the No. 1 singles match to take back-to-back 6-0 and 6-3 wins against her opponent for the victory.

Grace Vestal made short work of her opponent in No. 2 singles, cruising to a 6-0, 6-1 victory. In No. 3 singles, Bailee McKitrick fell 4-6, 1-6.

In No. 1 doubles, the Beaver tandem of Rilee Jones and Austin Johnson took a 0-6, 0-6 loss. Then in No. 2 doubles, Abby Coty and Malika Slassi were down 2-6 in the first set and battled to 5-5 in set two before an injury forced Stevenson to forfeit the match, giving Tenino a 3-2 overall victory.

On the junior varsity side, Emma Hall teamed up with Jones and the pair loss a pro set 2-8.

The Beavers remain undefeated on the season and improve to 5-0 overall.

“We’re feeling really great,” Tenino first-year coach Sam Whitney said. “Obviously, we would have loved to win straight up, but it was a good fight.”

The Beavers get back on the court Tuesday when they travel to Three Rivers Christian for a 3:30 p.m. matchup.
