1A Girls Hoops: Beavers Lose Grasp on 1A EvCo

In a game with league title implications, Tenino was unable to overcome visiting Montesano, falling, 45-36, and losing sole possession of the lead in the 1A Evergreen Conference on Thursday.

Beavers’ standout junior Ashley Schow scored 12 of her team-high 17 points in the second half but the Beavers were unable to complete the comeback after trailing most the game.

“Girls played hard,” Tenino coach Scott Ashmore said. “We came out on the losing end of a tough contest. Our defense was solid, we just didn't convert enough baskets to stay in the game. Take away a few of our turnovers, which led to some easy baskets for Montesano, and we would have been right in the game.”

Junior guard Grace Vestal scored all of her nine points in the second half as the Beavers’ first-half scoring woes this season continued.

“First-half scoring continues to be something our team needs to improve on,” Ashmore said.

Ashmore praised Vestal for her big second-half as well as junior Alivia Hunter for her defense on  Montesano’s Lisherness sisters (Paige and Zoee).

Tenino (8-3, 6-2 league) hosted undefeated W.F. West (9-0) in a non-league matchup on Friday.
