A 19-year-old man convicted for lighting a fire inside a Chehalis coffee stand in March has been released from jail and sentenced to serve 24 months on community supervision.

The defendant, Yaitt S. Murphy-Voie, had been arrested on March 4 after attempting to break into a business in Chehalis and then successfully breaking into a nearby coffee stand and lighting a fire in the oven.

He told police he broke into the coffee stand “because he was cold and hungry and started a fire to get warm,” according to court documents.

Murphy-Voie, was found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt of second-degree arson, second-degree burglary, attempted burglary and second-degree malicious mischief in a bench trial on Aug. 26.

Murphy-Voie’s sentencing was delayed pending a mental health evaluation and on Oct. 1, the court set the community custody sentence as a mental health sentencing alternative.
