ABERDEEN — Kamy Dacus had another solid pitching performance to lead the Bearcats to a 2-0 win over Aberdeen in an Evergreen 2A Conference softball game here on Tuesday.
Dacus struck out 12 batters and allowed three hits in the win.
Ellie Bunker was 3-for-3 and knocked in both runs for the Bearcats.
W.F. West scored a run in the fourth to open the scoring and tacked on one more run in the sixth for insurance.
“We hit the ball hard, but at them. We got the runs across when we needed them,” W.F. West coach Caty Lieseke said. “It was another great day, another well played effort by the whole team. Everyone is playing well together.”
W.F. West (11-1, 6-1) will resume the postponed game against Centralia tomorrow at Borst Park before playing the Tigers again on Thursday at Recreation Park in Chehalis. The Bearcats lead 4-1 in the the top of the fifth inning.
Rainey Shoots Pirates Past Rockets
CASTLE ROCK — Haley Rainey pitched a complete game and swung the bat well to lead Adna to a 3-2 win over Castle Rock in a non-league softball game here on Tuesday.
Rainey allowed five hits, two runs and three walks while striking out nine batters. She was also 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and a triple.
Ruby Bower was 2-for-3 and Keaton Dowell was 2-for-3 with a home run. Olivia Rodriguez added a hit, a run, a RBI and a walk for the Pirates.
Castle Rock scored a run in the first inning, but the Pirates tied the game on Dowell’s solo home run in the third inning. Adna scored a run in the fourth and the fifth for a 3-1 lead. Castle Rock tallied a run in the sixth inning but couldn’t complete the comeback.
Adna (16-1, 12-0) travels to Toledo on May 7 for the final league game of the season.
Spriggs’ Dingers Help Tigers Top Black Hills
Courtney Spriggs smacked a pair of home runs here at Borst Park on Tuesday as Centralia posted an 11-1 victory over Black Hills in six innings of Evergreen 2A Conference softball play.
The Tigers finished the day with 13 hits as a team and they scored three runs in the sixth inning in order to end the game via the 10-run mercy rule. Spriggs finished the game 4-for-4 with the two dingers. She also bunted for a single.
“She stood out. That’s for sure,” said Centralia coach David Orr.
Orr added, “Kaly Conaway, who usually hits in the bottom of our lineup, she came up with a big triple today. She’s been working hard in the cages.”
Sophie Duffy toed the rubber for the Tigers and finished with a strikeout per inning average while allowing just one earned run.
“Sophie is back throwing for us now. She threw one heck of a game. I think she had six strikeouts. She was placing the ball really well tonight,” said Orr.
Duffy had plenty of help behind her as the Tigers defense turned in an error free performance.
“Defensively Kylie Sharp shut down everything that came her way,’ Orr said.
Centralia (6-5, 4-4 league) will wrap up a partially completed game against W.F. West that was postponed for rain at home on Wednesday. The Tigers will play at W.F. West on Thursday.
Errors Cost Rochester Against Tumwater
TUMWATER — Rochester tallied eight errors against the Thunderbirds to fall 11-1 in five innings in an Evergreen 2A Conference softball game here on Tuesday.
Delaney Glazer was 2-for-3 with the only run for Rochester. Lexie Trombley hit a double, Maddie Bates had a hit and a RBI and Faith Kennedy also had a hit for the Warriors.
Tumwater led 2-1 after one inning and scored two runs in the third, four runs in the fourth and three runs in the fifth to end the game in five innings.
“Bottom line for today, our defense didn’t support our pitchers the way they should and the way they have been all season,” Rochester coach Dave Montgomery said. “Today was an aberration. We’ll flush this game.”
Rochester (6-6, 3-5) travels back to Tumwater to take on Black Hills on Wednesday.
Ducks Sweep Vikings
MOSSYROCK — The Vikings battled for two games but came up on the losing end of both games as Toutle Lake earned a sweep of a Central 2B League softball doubleheader here on Tuesday.
Toutle Lake won Game 1, 13-0, in five innings. Jolee Hadaller pitched all five innings for the Vikings, recording three strikeouts.
Saylor Stone had a hit and Sagie Brindle was 3-for-3 with a double. Hadaller was 2-for-3 with a double and Trista Rockwood added a hit for Mossyrock.
Toutle Lake scored six runs in the first inning and sealed the win with five runs in the fourth inning.
Mossyrock played better in Game 2, but the result was the same as the Ducks won 12-4. Hadaller was 2-for-2 with a run and Alexandra Rueda was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run. Gracie West had a hit and a RBI and Stone had a hit and a run for the Vikings.
Toutle Lake scored two runs in the first inning but the Vikings evened the score in the third inning. The Ducks scored seven runs in the fifth inning to pull away and plated three runs in the seventh to insure the victory.
Mossyrock (3-7, 3-7) travels to Kalama on Saturday for a C2BL doubleheader.
Eagles Edge Napavine
ELMA — An old adage proved true here on Tuesday when Napavine dropped a non-league softball game 12-9 to the Eagles — You’re already down by three when you cross the Grays Harbor County line.
“An umpire came up to me in between innings and said, ‘You guys are doing pretty good. We haven’t lost all year,’” noted Napaine coach Chad Williams.
Elma got off to a hot start with 10 runs in the first three innings before the Napavine defense was able to slow them down. Then, facing an eight run deficit in the final inning the Tigers rallied to put up five runs before they used up all of their outs.
“We put a little scare into them. We actually had the tying run at the plate in the seventh but just couldn’t push it across,” noted Williams. “We’d been hitting the ball fairly consistently all game it’s just that finally they started falling a little better. We were also a little more aggressive on the basepaths.”
Solana Sanchez was 2-for-3 at the plate for Napavine with a triple and two RBI in the boxscore. Ada Williams added three hits, two runs and two RBI for the Tigers.
Coach Williams noted that one of his players in particular did not limit their stellar play to just the batter’s box.
“Sanchez made a couple of plays at first. It was probably the best game she’s played in four years for me,” coach Williams said. “She made a diving, sprawled out flat dive. It was really a great play. To see her get in the dirt and playing hard and wanting to win was pretty cool. I was proud of her.”
Napavine (4-8, 3-7 league) will host Raymond on Thursday. The Tigers will play a doubleheader against Morton-White Pass at home on Friday.
