The Bearcats and Bobcats couldn’t decide a winner in regulation or overtime, but W.F. West had all five shooters score in the shootout to earn a 2-1 win in an Evergreen 2A Conference girls soccer game in Chehalis on Tuesday.

It was a scoreless first half and Aberdeen started the scoring in the 48th minute on a goal by Emma Green. W.F. West’s Elizabeth Patana launched a throw-in to Madi Mencke who touched the ball to Tizzy Zylstra for the Bearcats’ goal in the 56th minute to tie the game.

In the shootout, Mencke, Zylstra, Becca Deskins, Cameron Sheets and Cassy Schilter all made their kicks. Aberdeen made their first four shots before the fifth shooter fired it wide-right to allow the Bearcats to earn the victory.

“Our girls played fantastic tonight. We controlled the run of play. The goal we gave up, we made a slight mistake,” W.F. West coach Allen Anderson said. “We only gave up four shots tonight and we had 10 shots. We definitely controlled most of the play in our attacking half. We had a hard time getting good shots and we had a lot of opportunities off of set pieces.”

It was senior night for W.F. West’s Kristin Jendryka, Aeryn Elder, Abbey Duffey, Cianna Weinreich, Taya McCallum and Deskins.

W.F. West (9-3-1, 4-3) is on the road Thursday against Black Hills.

Tumwater Soaks Warriors

ROCHESTER — A hat trick by Hallie Bergford helped Tumwater sail by Rochester by a score of 4-0 here on Tuesday in 2A Evergreen Conference girls soccer action.

Bergford scored her first goal in the 10th minute before the offense went silent and the Thunderbirds had to settle for a 1-0 lead at halftime.

“The girls played really well in that first half. It was a great defensive battle,” said Rochester coach Robert McFadden.

After the intermission, though, Bergford added goals in the 49th and 61st minutes to extend the lead. Then in the 70th minute, Cierra Larson scored the T-Birds fourth and final goal.

McFadden noted that Tumater put up 13 on-target shots in the game. Rochester’s goalkeeper Madison Bates was able to stop nine of those attempts.

“She had a great game. She’s been solid throughout the whole year,” said McFadden.

McFadden was also keen to note the formidable play of Gabby Ramirez at centerback, along with Megan Haury on the wing.

“She just plays so tough. She’s a great player,” said McFadden of Haury. “I love the way she plays. She plays with a chip on her shoulder and a lot of grit. She runs up and down the field all day long.”

Rochester (1-11-1, 0-7 league) will play at Centralia on Thursday.

Beavers Skunk Riptide

TENINO — The Beavers gave South Bend/Raymond all they could handle here Tuesday night with a 7-0 win in 1A Evergreen League girls soccer play.

Grace Vestal set the table all night long for Tenino with three assists, including two in the first 16 minutes to noted scoring machine Brieanna Dell. Her third assist was in the 48th minute and set up a goal by Emma Barr.

Ashley Schow scored the Beavers’ only unassisted goal of the night in the 23rd minute and four minutes later, it was Morgan Miner finding the back net with an assist by Dell.

“We controlled the ball. We switched up our formation a little bit today,” noted Tenino coach Kevin Schlutz. “The first half, we just kind of kept the ball on their end of the field the entire time.”

Dell was able to assist Morgan Miner for a score again in the 47th minute and Kamryn Oliviera capped the Beavers scoring with a goal, assisted by Abby Severse in the 71st minute.

“It was really just a good team performance,” said Schultz, who noted that his team got up 28 shots on goal compared to just one for the Riptide.

He also lauded the outstanding play of Iris Campesino and Megan Letts in the middle.

“I think if we would have had a little bit better finish we probably could have scored a couple more goals but you obviously can’t complain with seven goals on the board,” said Schultz.

Tenino (12-0-1, 7-0 league) will play at Forks on Thursday.
