Toledo Defeats Onalaska

Toledo goalkeeper Kaylee Veigel made four saves and Toledo fired 18 shots, including 13 on target.

“Ony is definitely one of those top teams. They got the best of us last year, especially that one in the district tournament where they eliminated us,” Toledo coach Noel Vazquez said. “We put a target to look forward to this year and mark it on the calendar, this is when we play Ony. We had a good week of practice after having a good outcome against Adna and we were feeling good and the assistant coaches put in a lot of work getting mentally prepared. We played a really good game, just strong. We were first to the ball, controlled it for most of the game. It was shocking for us, we knew they’re a really good team but didn’t know what to expect from them.”

Vazquez highlighted Plancarte for earning a starting spot and scoring in the second minute to set the tone for Toledo.

“She’s been coming off the bench and had that opportunity to start. If it wasn’t for that early goal, I think could have gone any other way,” Vazquez said. “It set the tone for the rest of the game. She’s someone who usually never starts but Kaylin has shown why she needs to be playing more and we couldn’t be happier with how she’s performing.”

Vazquez also noted the play of Gallegos in her new role at the wing position.

Toledo (8-4, 3-2) travels to Napavine on Wednesday while Onalaska (7-3-1, 3-1) hosts Toule Lake on Wednesday in a league contest.
