Monday's Boys Tennis: Several Bearcats Survive First Day of Sub-Districts

The Bearcats had eight players survive the first day of the boys sub-district tennis tournament on Monday at Borst Park in Centralia.

In singles action, Gabe Cuestas started his day with a 6-1, 6-1 win against Aberdeen’s Bryce Kola. Cuestas fell to Centralia’s Ryan Mack in the next round, 6-2, 6-3. Cuestas defeated Tumwater’s Noah Tompkins in three sets, 5-7, 7-6 (8-6) and 6-3.

W.F. West’s Luke Walters defeated Centralia’s Landon Kaut in his first match of the day, 6-1, 6-4, before falling to Tumwater’s Ethan Dillon, 6-2, 6-1. Walters will face Cuestas in the consolation semifinals on Friday at Steamboat Tennis Center.

Andrew Boggess fell to Tompkins, 6-0, 6-0, to end his season.



In doubles action, W.F. West’s Jacob Blomdahl and Christian Iverson defeated Aberdeen’s Colby Miller and Andrew Trodahl in their first match, 6-2, 6-1. Tumwater’s Peyton Peterson and Gunnar Fields defeated the W.F. West duo in the next match, 6-4, 6-1. Blomdahl and Iverson rebounded in their next match against Black Hills’ Laurie Calvert and Josh Do, 6-1, 6-3, and will take on Aberdeen’s Colton Faulkner and Romeo Sanchez in the consolation semifinals.

W.F. West’s Collin Slattery and Caleb Walters had a bye before earning a win against Calvert and Do, 6-3, 6-0. Peterson and Fields gave the duo a loss in the next round, 6-1, 6-1. Slattery and Walters will face Centralia’s Brandon Yueng and Brandon Wilkerson on Friday.

The Bearcats’ top duo of Joseph Chung and Cade Cameron had a bye before defeating Tumwater’s Clayton Pierpoint and Drew Johnson, 6-1, 6-0. Chung and Cameron then defeated Faulkner and Sanchez, 6-1, 6-1, and will face Peterson and Fields in the championship match on Friday.

The Top 4 from singles and doubles will advance to districts with the sub-district tournament resuming on Friday at Steamboat Tennis Center.
