Friday's Boys Tennis: W.F. West Captures Sub-District Championship

OLYMPIA — W.F. West had two doubles teams and one singles player qualify for districts, helping the Bearcats win the Evergreen 2A Conference Sub-District boys tennis tournament championship crown at Steamboat Island here on Friday.

In doubles action, W.F. West’s top duo of Joseph Chung and Cade Cameron defeated Tumwater’s Peyton Peterson and Gunnar Fields in the championship match, 6-2, 6-2, to earn the doubles title and the No. 1 seed from the north into the district tournament.

Jacob Blomdahl and Christian Iverson started the day in the consolation semifinals and earned a win against Aberdeen’s Colton Faulkner and Romeo Sanchez, 6-1, 6-4. The win put the duo into the consolation finals against Centralia’s Brandon Yueng and Brandon Wilkerson, with the Bearcat duo winning 6-3, 6-2, to earn the No. 3 seed from the north into the district tournament.

W.F. West’s Collin Slattery and Caleb Walters lost to Yueng and Wilkerson in the consolation semifinals, 6-3, 6-7 (4-7) and 2-6, to end their season.



In singles action, W.F. West’s Luke Walters and Gabe Cuestas faced each other in the consolation semifinals. Cuestas won 7-6 (13-11) and 6-2 as Walters finished fifth and an alternate into the district tournament.

Cuestas advanced to the consolation finals to take on Black Hills’ Jonathan Schade, earning the win in three sets, 6-4, 3-6 and 6-2 to take the No. 3 seed from the north into the district tournament.

All the qualifying Bearcats will travel to Mint Valley in Longview on Thursday and Friday for the District 4 tournament.
