Retired W.F. West High School teacher and former Bearcats softball coach Mike Keen was recently inducted into Washington Softball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Keen, who retired in June 2017, led the Bearcats to 333 wins over a span of 15 years, which included 14 consecutive trips to the state tournament. His teams went a combined 50-16 at state tourneys.

He started teaching in Chehalis in 1979 and was a volunteer baseball coach. He joined the Bearcats softball coaching staff as an assistant in 1993, then took over as head coach when Russ Lunders retired in 2003, the same year he moved up to teach high school history.

Keen spearheaded three state championship teams (2012, 2015, 2017) and was inducted into the Washington State Fastpitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame in February 2019. The Bearcats didn’t lose a single 2A Evergreen Conference match from 2012 until he retired in 2017.
