1A Wrestling: Tenino’s Marti Wins Regional Championship

HOQUIAM — Only one Tenino wrestler advanced here Saturday, but he did so in a big way.

Beaver junior Rob Marti won the 220-pound championship at the 1A Region 2 wrestling tournament so move on to the state wrestling championships, starting Friday in the Tacoma Dome.

Marti was awarded a first-round bye, then beat Hoquiam’s Noah Sudderth with a pin 1 minute, 44 seconds into their semifinal match.



Marti then notched a pin with three seconds left in the third round to defeat Montesano’s Stephen Radamacher in the regional championship.

Montesano won the team title with 308 points, nearly double that of second-place Forks (166.5).

Marti will open Mat Classic XXXII action on Friday with a first-round match against Granite Falls’ Jarad Barth.
