Letter to the Editor: Support Beverly Clark for Centralia School Board

Posted

I’m writing this letter in support of Beverly Clark for position 2 on the Centralia School Board. I have known Bev since 2015 when I had her daughter as a student in first grade at Jefferson Lincoln Elementary. Before meeting Ms. Clark, I had heard that she had a reputation for being outspoken and involved in her child’s education. As soon as I met her, I learned that this was true. But more than just being outspoken, Ms. Clark was first and foremost a welcomed advocate for her child. Not only did she advocate for the well-being of her child but also all children. I was in awe and continue to be in awe of her parenting and advocating skills for her two young children.

Over the years Bev has spoken up for students at many school board meetings as a concerned community member and parent. As a school board member, she will help continue to create a district that makes decisions with community input from the city, port district, and school district thus creating a stronger community and school system. No one understands listening to community members better than someone who has been in that position herself.

In the past, she has stood with teachers as an advocate for fair compensation and benefits. She understands that teachers, parents, board members, and the community are all partners in raising the next generation. As a member of the school board I am confident that she will continue to advocate for strong, transparent communication, specifically how and why decisions are made by the board. She believes transparent communication on budgetary matters are key to the success in our community.

Most of all, Bev believes in educating the whole child. I have seen this over the years as she has constantly given her own children experiences that go beyond basic book learning. As a board member, Bev will bring that philosophy to the table to address the needs of all children from special needs to highly capable as well as exposure to the arts, vocational studies, math, leadership, science, reading, physical fitness, writing, and more.

Even though I no longer teach in the Centralia School District it always remains dear to my heart after serving the community for 17 years. I know Beverly Clark feels the same way about this community. Bev is a Centralia graduate herself and has lived in the community for over 40 years. She has worked, played, paid taxes, and is raising her children here. No one is more invested in this community, the children, and the school system then Bev Clark. Let’s all get out and vote this November for  Beverly Clark for Centralia School Board Position 2!
