Letter to the Editor: Political Cartoon Was Insulting

Posted

Last Saturday‘s Chronicle and its opinion and adjoining commentary pages provide many thought-provoking essays. The political cartoon, however, is an insulting depiction of an NRA member who looks like a gangster. NRA members are not gangsters. The majority are politically astute and morally straight, devout patriots who have risked or would give their lives in defense of this country.

I have no problem with the voter outcome on Initiative 1639. “We the People” have spoken. The “Musings” commentary was spot on, Mr. McCroskey, as they always are. A very refreshing breath of insight on the county and state politics and issues.

As for the talk of adding another, larger layer of government in the county for us, the residents — hooray for us, the voters! Again, “We the People“ have spoken, in defeating the home rule charter.

We need commissioners who will hold the line on a balanced budget and say no to special interest groups when budgeted monies are not available. Two topics come to mind: Timberland Regional Library and the tourism revival plan to join Mount St. Helens to Mount Rainier by road.
