Letter to the Editor: Don’t Protest, Support Soldiers

Posted

Letter writer Larry Kerschner is really all over the place in his way of thinking. To say we “invaded” Iraq is just plain wrong. You might as well say we invaded Vietnam.

I never felt I was put in harm’s way when I was there. I was a soldier, and as a soldier, you fight where you’re told to fight and try to survive.

Protesting in the ‘60s didn’t accomplish anything as far as Vietnam. When I came home, protesters were waiting like vultures. They had no clue what Vietnam was about. They were too busy smoking their pot and, yes, they did get physical. When I went through that mob, I did leave one on the ground.

You don’t know me, so you have no right to judge me. Where this country sends our troops is the business of the armed forces. War will always be here until the end of days, and no amount of protests will ever change that. You can’t have peace without war. Instead of protesting, you should put your energy in supporting the soldiers that are in war.
