Letter to the Editor: Centralia Has Kind People — Thanks for the Lift

Posted

On Feb. 8, we arrived in Centralia on Amtrak 507 just before 8 p.m. We had planned

to take a cab home; we live on Ham Hill Road, about a mile and a half from the station.

The cab company said they were not doing hills in the snow. We are in our 70s, tromping through 5 inches of snow with two roll arounds, a carry-on and a cane.

Two brothers walked past us. They saw our cane and suitcases. I told them our dilemma and asked if they had all-wheel drive so that we could pay them to transport us. They said “sure” and took us home on a very scary road while it snowed heavily. They would only take half the money we offered.

We want to give a shout out to the brothers and their Silverado vehicle from Logan

Street. Centralia has some very kind people; next time we will remember to ask for a name!

By the way, the concerned taxi driver called later to check if we had made it home.
