History Pub Talks Black Pioneers, George Washington

Olympic Club History Pub in downtown Centralia hosts “Black Pioneers of the Pacific Northwest,” with doors opening at 6 p.m. and the program starting at 7 p.m. This is a free, first come, first served, all ages event, presented by Dr. Quintard Taylor, professor of American History at the University of Washington. Dr. Taylor will present on the experiences and legacy of African American George Washington, who founded Centralia and was instrumental in its early development and progress.

“When Disaster Strikes” presented by Thurston County Emergency Management Coordinators Andrew Kinney and Vivian Easton at 6:30 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a designated Red Cross shelter at 18501 Paulson Street SW, Rochester. The event includes demonstrations and information on water storage, ham radio communications, temporary shelters, securing your home, first aid, fire department, transportable survival kits and alternative cooking methods using emergency food storage.
