Salkum Man Dies After Shooting Saturday Night

By The Chronicle

A 28-year-old man died after a shooting in Salkum Saturday night.

The suspected shooter, a Salkum man, was questioned by police Saturday night. It was unclear Sunday morning whether or not he was booked into jail.

Lewis County Coroner Warren McLeod identified the victim as Travis Shrive Sunday morning.

The 28-year-old Salkum man was transported to Providence Centralia Hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead.

The shooting occurred on the 200 block of Stowell Road, about a half a block away from the Salkum Supermarket, shortly after 8 p.m.

Initial information indicates the shooting may have stemmed from a dispute between neighbors, possibly over a dog.

Medics responded immediately but needed to wait for deputies to make sure the area was safe before they could tend to the patient, said Chief Duran McDaniel with the Salkum Fire Department.

Stowell Road was closed from Salkum Road to Gore Road Saturday night as police investigated. Personnel from the Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office were also at the scene.

The autopsy for Shrive is scheduled for Tuesday, McLeod said.
