In Loving Memory of Mildred “Milly” Short: 1927-2022

Mildred “Milly” Short passed away Oct. 26, 2022, in Centralia, Washington, her home of 16 years. She was born Jan. 28, 1927, to Pearl Adams and Charles Burgess in Mineral, Washington. Over the years, she also resided in the Washington cities of Tenino, Rainier and Morton.  

Milly was the valedictorian of her 1941 graduating class at Mineral School. Her professional career was as supervisor/key punch operator for Washington state departments. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Grand Chapter and Worthy Matron of Yelm Chapter 186 (1976-1977).  

Millly was a very special, strong lady, independent, kind, beautiful, successful and sweet. She always put her family first and had a love of animals, including strays. She also loved crafts, Rummi and other card games, gardening, walks, shopping and traveling with family and her best friend, Ginger Lawton.  

Milly is survived by her sons Charles Heupel and Terry Heupel, five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, brother Luther Burgess, and sisters Martha Stiltner and Adeline Ledbetter. She was preceded by her parents and grandparents: Woodrow Adams, Mary Francis, Silas Francis and Susie Amburgy.  

Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2, 2022, at South Sound Manor, 455 North St. SE, Tumwater, Washington 98501. Donations in Milly’s honor may be made to a charity or church of your choice.
