Voices: Washington State Grange Awards Scholarships to Lewis County Students

The Washington State Grange is awarding $12,750 in scholarships to deserving high school seniors and current college students this spring. The scholarships, offered through the Washington State Grange Foundation to assist grange members and children of grange members in attending college, range from $750 to $1,000 each. This year’s scholarship recipients include:

• Jack Mallonee, a senior at W.F. West High School in Chehalis, is the recipient of the $1,000 Kittleson Agricultural Scholarship. Jack is the son of Charles and Kimberly Mallonnee, who are members of the Baw Faw Grange. He is planning to study Animal Science and Agricultural Business at Walla Walla Community College. He then plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree, with the intent on coming back to work on the family farm after college. In addition to lawn-mowing and working on the farm, Jack has worked for numerous farmers in the Boistfort Valley. He participates in school athletics and has been a peer leader/mentor at his school.

• Alexandria Greene, the current Master of Mossyrock Grange, has been awarded the Martin and Grace Forry Agricultural Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. Allie is the daughter of Mark and Janice Greene.  She will be graduating from Mossyrock High School in June and pursuing a degree in Entomology and Pre-Vet at Oklahoma State University. Allie is a former Junior Granger who has been a grange camp counselor for several years. She was also a member of the rose drill team at the 2017 National Grange Convention in Spokane. Allie is an avid equestrian and has shown her paint horse at many levels, winning a world championship at the 2017 Youth World Championship Show. She has been active in 4-H and FFA and is the Senior Class President at Mossyrock High School.



• Morgan Goodrich was named as the recipient of the Delpha Goude Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. Morgan is the daughter of Carl and Sheila Goodrich, who are members of Baw Faw Grange. She is a graduating senior at W.F. West High School in Chehalis and will be attending Centralia Community College to study Dental Hygiene.  Morgan was selected by her school administrators to serve as a peer mentor.  She played on the school fast pitch team and participated in school leadership activities. She was formerly a Junior Grange member and assisted in preparations for the Annual Christmas Program, hosted by the grange.
