Thurston County Receives Award for Top 100 Fleets in North America

Thurston County Ranks 73rd Out of the Top 100 Fleets

OLYMPIA –    At the annual conference of the North America Fleet Administrators (NAFA), the Thurston County Fleet Services team received recognition as 73rd out of the top 100 fleets in North America.

The award was announced in Tampa, Florida at NAFA’s annual conference for Fleet Administrators. NAFA sent 1900 applications to fleets identified as being superior by their peers, other national recognitions, site visits by the judges, and best business practices. In North America, there are more than 38,000 public fleet departments. Former #1 Fleet Managers, Fleet Managers of the Year, and other fleet expert’s made up the judge’s panel.



The judges regarded Thurston County Fleet operations as exceptional based on the criteria of the contests performance measures. The Thurston Count Fleet Services team was scored on criteria related to accountability, use of technology and data, collaboration, creativity and innovation, performance, efficiency and cost-effectiveness, and staff development.

Other outstanding accomplishments are: 14 fleet employees maintain more than 650 vehicles and pieces of equipment supporting 1,100 employees with a $5million operating budget. This is an excellent ratio of technicians to equipment, far above the national average for similar operations. It is made possible through the use of advanced diagnostic’s software on each employee’s computer. These efforts have profound impacts on employees and the community.

The purpose of the contest is to encourage others to succeed by using examples of stewardship. Thurston County Fleet culture is one of the possible; innovative, creative, dedicated, talented public servants, fully committed to the best interests of the taxpayers with complete transparency and accountability in its operations.
