Bethany Weaver Spalding: Prayers to family, especially the little girl who will live with the thought that she killed her sister for the rest of her life. So tragic.

Selma Nail: Tragic, it hurts my heart for all involved.

Readers continue to react to the change of the W.F. West mascot on Facebook:

Shane Mathus: Sorry to whoever put time into creating this. I personally like the old one far better. The colors I hope are just a bad picture. They need to stay with the crimson and gray. On top of all this, think of the cost to make new uniforms for all the sports and the new branding on everything. This needs to be stopped. If you look at a real bearcat you would know that this is not any closer than the current version.

Shelly Schoening: Like I was saying, nice to refresh the old look. Good job John Mason! Since our days have gone by let’s hope the new generations like it and it gives them the inspiration to be winners. Go Bearcats!!

Jolyn Curfman: As a former Bearcat, I think this is hideous. It looks like a raccoon that got run over, and the colors aren’t even right! If you’re going to make a new logo (which by the way I don’t think is necessary, the old one was just fine), at least improve on the old design rather than making it look like something that came out of a horror movie. I would think Bearcats and former Bearcats would want a logo that they can take pride in. This does not fit the bill.

Shelly Zimmer: Are you kidding me? Are we now the Chehalis Chupacabra? This is hideous!!! Thank God I saved all my high school memorabilia!

Readers react to coverage of Winlock Egg Days on Facebook:

Barbara Nichols Lewis: We went to the parade, stopped at the Historical Museum for a tour and to buy vintage style postcards, found great books at the huge library book sale, had a ball looking at the car show, saw the awesome Jeff Evans Magic Show, stopped for food across from the Egg, grandson got an awesome balloon made by Mr. Twister, saw many partaking free egg salad sandwiches. Then, horse rides, bouncy houses, vendors in and out of the gym (where I won free movie tickets), face painting , elephant ears, curly fries, shaved ice and so much more. The heat got us and we went home tired and wishing we had more energy!

Sharlene Hoffman: Bought books at the library. Parade. Yard sales. Car show. Even snacks!

Instead of going to the golf course, our legislators should be working on a budget for the state.

Interesting. Especially when you consider that we are entering another recession, thanks to the policies of the Obama administration, which thinks regulation is the answer to everything.
