Centralia UMC: Thanks to the Lewis County Homeless Connect folk for all of the work you do in our community!

Followers of The Chronicle’s Facebook page react to the proposal of a bill to ban abortions based on what gender the baby will be:

Sue Beckman: Aborting in the first place is wrong, it’s a life and should not be taken because you do not want a child. But to have an abortion because of the sex of the unborn child is really wrong. What kind of a person would do such a horrible thing? This person should never ever have children. I knew in other countries this was done but I didn’t know our country did, it does.

Norma Szabo: What about the case of genetic defects that only affect one sex? I would guess less than. 0001% of abortions are done simply for sex selection. Just another pro-birth idea!

Ann Davis: I’m for the right to choose — but I’m against abortion strictly because of the gender of the baby.

Randy Cobb: It all boils down to the taking of an innocent life for convenience sake.

The reason we moved here is for the small town safety and the community, if you wish to deal the drugs, go somewhere else. Thank you for the people who put their lives on the line so we can live in a safe environment, Kudos!

• Story: Lawmakers Say State Patrol Due for a Pay Raise

I do support the thrust of the descriptions of both bills, but do have a concern about one aspect of Senate Bill SB6631. That is the section “if a trooper leaves the state patrol within three years to become a local police officer, that local department would have to pay the state for the trooper’s training costs.” In effect, that means that a new state patrol officer is under a somewhat indentured servitude, like early colonists to America were often under. In that case, a local police department is always going to prefer to hire someone not in the state patrol during their first 3 years. Of course, if the trooper finds the state patrol untenable, he or she will just look for jobs outside of Washington state.

“The PFD is a public taxing district in charge of the oversight of the $10 million Northwest Sports Hub complex in Centralia.” Wasn’t this facility originally supposed to cost $5-6 million?

I looked through the most recent sirens and it seems there has been a lot of vehicles broken into. It looks like it is time to set up a sting. Put a purse on a car seat and wait for that midnight prowler to try and get it. It is probably the same people breaking into people’s sheds and houses lately. Centralia Police need to get on it. This is a small city. There shouldn’t be multiple cars being broken into in one night. I had two guys knock on my door about two weeks ago, really late at night. They fled real fast when I told them I am getting my weapon.
