• Story: Toledo Committee Agrees to Propose New School Bond Measure

That so called “soft money” has almost doubled the price of what this bond should really be run for! Can you even imagine having a contractor gives you a bid for repairing something in your home for both labor and material and then adding an additional 40% onto that bid price? This is a runaway system that needs to stop and stop now. Does the TSD really believe that they can turn those 66 no voters into yes voters and change their minds once they really see what this bond is all about? As being a member of the FAC special committee (Cost Reduction Committee) that took on the process of seeing how we could cut down the price of the bond, the public will revolt a third time just like they did the last two bonds. When they find out that not only will there be an added 40% “soft cost” added (architectural and engineering work, along with sales tax, and cost of materials,) added to the schools bond, but there will be an addition “Contractor Phasing Coord/ Mobilization Premium” cost charge of 5% ($722,120.00) added on, along with another added on “Contingency” fee charge of 15% ($2,274,678.00). That’s a whooping $2,996,798.00 additional added on charges! There is a ton of new information and facts that have yet to come forth and tax payers will be stocked and eyes will be rolling once it all comes out. One of the Toledo’s School Districts top priority has always been to get their new football/track field (and restrooms) included into their bond. If passed, it will give them that extra slush money that they can’t get any other way. The State has recently told the school district that the State will not be funding their new proposed football/track field wish list with state matching SCAP funds. So the gravy is being piled on thick now to make up their wish list funds. Much more disturbing information will be coming forth once the school board passes its bond resolution. Once the property owners who will be paying for this new bond sees all the “facts”, there will likely be a lot more “no voters” then there was the last time around.

• Story: County Commissioners Look to Balance 2018 Budget

If this is a joke, it’s not very funny. How the heck can they be serious about balancing the county budget when there are still so many work groups without a contract? 911, Prosecutors, Sheriff’s Support Staff, Public works, etc. are still working without a contract after how many years now? What the county commissioners ought to be is embarrassed to take home a paycheck while the folks who do the real work in this county are ignored for yet another year. Sorry I ever voted for you Ms. Fund. I sure won’t make that mistake again!

• McCroskey Commentary: Mandated Services, the Fate of Hank and a Farewell to Reign

The trouble is that a bad bureaucratic process resulted in this dog Hank being called dangerous when he wasn’t. Nobody wants legal cases to be decided on the basis of emotion; everybody is for the rule of law. It’s just that a lot of people are frustrated that so far there hasn’t been as much interest in justice as there has been in upholding the old bad process, which may yet result in this innocent dog’s death.
