By your logic, Mr. Howe, I’m partly to blame for bombings in places like Belfast and Derry because I’m of Irish descent. I’m not disputing your contention that the Japanese army commited acts of atrocity during WWII, just that the Nisei and Issei who were here bear any responsibility. My late grandfather, a longtime American Legion member and WWI veteran whose father in France was killed by a German sniper, helped a Japanese-American family near Seattle during WWII by caretaking their home and operating their nursery business (at a profit) while they were interned even though that was a VERY unpopular thing to do, then returned everything to them when they returned. I’m so proud of him for never losing sight of neither his own humanity nor that of the Nojis. By the way, why didn’t FDR lock up Americans of German or Italian heritage? Weren’t the Nazis a threat?

In fairness to THE CHRONICLE, I am impressed with how quickly my rebuttal letter was published, nearly in its entirety. One phrase that was omitted was after my assertion that Washington does have a welfare problem, but the root of the problem is corporate/business welfare. The wording after the comma, was left out. Thank you, Editor Schwartz, for your prompt publication of my response.

I oppose the addition of an exit between 82 and 88. It’s an idea that merits the use of the word “stupid.” Don’t think I’m being fair? Well OK then, I’ll give it to you. Where does the imaginary exit go? That’s right. There is nowhere for it to go, is there? If you want to do stuff like this in your basement or garage, more power to ya. But if you want to muck up my world with your nonsense, no sympathy. Postscript: I am running for Centralia City Council.
