Chronicle Facebook followers respond to post of “Democrats Urge Inslee to Veto Tax Cuts for Manufacturers:”

Kevin Bonagofski: The special tax reduction for aerospace was passed in 2003. This reduction benefits the other 7,000 manufacturers in this state.

Andy Watts: Of course they do. It doesn’t follow the Democrats’ tax and spend agenda.

Justin Lundy: Weird. I thought it was supposed to be what’s good for the citizens and not multibillion dollar corporations that lay people off yearly to keep maximum profit at the cost of the workers. Tax cuts for small businesses is good to help them grow and prosper. Boeing is a welfare company when it comes to the amount of tax breaks it receives.

Chronicle Facebook followers respond to post of “Other Views: Examining the Evolution of Teens and Summer Jobs:”

Brycen Bear Baker: The real REAL truth is, jobs traditionally held by those without previous work experience aren’t being hired because businesses can’t afford to pay someone with zero experience $11 an hour. So they take the person who’s had previous experience to justify the wage increase.

Norma Szabo: Time to abolish all those child labor laws. They have a negative effect on business. Just think how they could increase their profit if they could have kids working for an alternate minimum wage ($1 sounds good) and could work them 16 hours a day. After all, no need for an education if we expect to maintain a minimum wage society

Sharra Finley: The real truth is it’s because the government has made it next to impossible to employ teenagers.

As I reflect on our family’s loss of my father-in-law, I’m reminded of JFK’s words, “One person can make a difference, and everyone should try.” Jim definitely made a difference!

It seems that the most important legal issue would be what happened when they came and confiscated Hank — did they have the proper legal papers, signed and approved? I would hope that that alone, if the officer did not have the authorized papers, would make the entire seizure illegal. There are other legal issues, of course, and I’m so glad that Mr. Karp is a lawyer trained in animal law — what a great thing! The other side of the issue, the ethics of the whole case, is also very important. If the judge was biased by breed-specific prejudices, those prejudices have been proved false. Then there is Hank’s behavior since this family has known him, and the fact that a child would be emotionally devastated to lose his best friend.

Seems to me a budget director would have been a better choice, especially since the county is running on reserves. I appreciate the work by the group and know they made a decision based on what they think will work best. Adding a high salary to the management structure, while running in the red, doesn’t make a lot of sense. Many of the employees didn’t get the raise they need.
