Sunday Is 35th Anniversary of Singer Crosby’s Death

This is just a reminder that Tacoma-born Bing Crosby died on Oct. 14, 1977, so this year marks the 35th anniversary of his passing.

I recently went to England to attend a meeting of the International Club Crosby in Leeds. Famed golfers Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player sent the group DVDs about Crosby, which were screened at the meeting.

The Bing Crosby fan club is celebrating its 76th anniversary, the oldest fan club in the world.

The house he was born in is still standing on North J Street, Tacoma.

Also, there is a cement plaque of Bing’s handprints dating from 1937 at a local radio station.

I’m Australian and first met Bing in Seattle in 1957. Later on, I met him a couple of more times when living in England.

At that time (1957), Bing told me to look up his brother in L.A., which I did.

That was Larry, but I also met brother Bob.

Later on I met and know his wife Kathryn, caddied for son Nathaniel and know his nephew, Howard, who lives in Walla Walla.
