Readers react on Facebook to story detailing Amtrak’s request for more police presence at the Centralia Train Depot:

Lindsey Tomasheck: I have all the respect in the world for the police. I truly think the problem is really overwhelming and I understand they can’t be there constantly babysitting but, it’s really getting bad. They leave trash in my salon doorway (pretty sure they are sleeping there at night) and there is also an issue with people throwing up all the way around the building. Not exactly what you want to come to work to.

David Troglin: Amtrak station is city owned and maintained but they say police don’t have money to patrol. They blame Twin Transit for the trouble but it is  not the bus riders that hang all day dealing drugs, drinking, and taking up benches that people waiting for the bus need. But the cops drive down Tower dozens of times all day without turning one block over.

Jessie Brunswig: Sounds like they need to hire a temporary security guard who checks everyone’s I.D. as they go into the depot and at least make a presence known there. Despicable that these youths or transients don’t have more respect for their community.

Readers react on Facebook to Department of Ecology’s request for public input on its oil spill plan for Southwest Washington:

Danny Sarnt Ritalin-Ritalin: A spill we can handle; a derailment with a fire is what they need to plan for!

Area Crafter: How many of these “Public Inputs” does the state need to understand that the majority of Washington state’s citizens don’t want oil trains crossing our state?

Barbara Nichols Lewis: This is of such importance. The rails are right in the middle of Winlock, separating the town in two.

on Centralia’s Panhandling Ordinance

Having just moved here from King County, I sincerely hope that Centralia never follows the model in that area. There, aggressive panhandling is rampant, and the “leavings” from where they hang out are disgusting and unhygienic. I applaud Centralia taking a strong stand on this, and hope for continued success of these measures.
