Anniversaries: Barr, Spears

Jim and Gwen Barr

Jim and Gwen Barr, Curtis, are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, at the Baw Faw Grange, 995 Boistfort Road, Curtis. The celebration in being given by the Barrs’ family.

The Barrs were married Jan. 1, 1955, at the Lutheran Church in Chehalis.

The couple have lived in this area for most of their lives, except for a brief period in North Carolina when Jim served in the Army.

Jim retired from Barr Construction in 1996. Gwen retired the same year after 26 years with the Chehalis School District.

The Barrs enjoyed 10 years of wintering in Arizona. They now live full-time in Jim’s childhood home in Wildwood.



Their children are Machele (Deane) Brodie, Sammamish, and Jim Barr Jr., deceased. The have six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

John and Pat Spears

John and Pat Spears, Chehalis, are celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary with their children this month.

The Spearses were married Dec. 19, 1959, in Ellensburg. John is a retired teacher, and Pat is a retired secretary/teacher.

The couple enjoy traveling, gardening and participating in various charities in the community. They particularly enjoy spending time with family and friends, and seeing their children and grandchildren as much as they can.

Their children are Shawn (Linda) Spears, Tenino, and Dana (Carl) Miller, Lafayette, Colorado. They have three grandchildren.
