Demo Derby, Rodeo Set to Bring Thrills to SW Washington Fair Grandstands

Some might think food, animals and rides are enough to make a great fair, but a trio of events scheduled for the Southwest Washington Fair grandstands takes it over the top.

The traditional fair demolition derby will take place twice — first at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, and again at noon Sunday, Aug. 21.

“Dusty destruction for your afternoon entertainment!” the fair proclaims in promotional material. “Cheer on your favorite metal-mashing chargers.”

This will be the 40th annual demolition derby at the fair.

If classic cars crashing into one another doesn’t interest you — or even if it does — the grandstands will also be host to the Lewis County Rodeo, which is now a double sanctioned event by the National Professional Rodeo Association and Pro-West.

“This is a full-scale professional rodeo with  more events than ever,” according to fair organizers. “It will be  jam-packed into one exciting night of genuine arena thrills!”

Events will include bareback riding, tie down roping, breakaway roping, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, team roping, barrel racing and bull riding.

Another Southwest Washington Fair favorite is also returning with the rodeo — mutton busting. Youngsters who sign up will get a chance to see how long they can hang on to a running sheep.

All the attendees in the grandstands will be able to listen along to the action as well as the fairgrounds has recently installed a new sound system.

As the fair draws closer, ticket information for both the rodeo and demolition derby will be posted online at https://southwestwashingtonfair.org.
