We’re back
After the lazy, hazy crazy days of summer, it’s time to jump back into things. There are a few changes in The Chronicle Sports Department and I like them.
First, we have the new addition online with Alex Alderson’s “From the Sidelines” show, which will be available on our Web site every Friday morning simply by going to chronline.com/prepsports. Also, Alderson, owner of Northwest Sports Radio, and color man Mark Westley, will broadcast 15 high school games this fall, starting Friday night with the Old Helmet Game between Mossyrock and Onalaska.
Our goal with these broadcasts is to focus on rivalries, games with playoffs on the line, or simply just games that should feature a good matchup. Alderson’s show, since it will air Friday morning, will not just focus on what’s coming up on the weekend, he’ll also chat with area coaches, whose teams are in the hunt, or with certain players who are coming off special performances.
And who knows? It may even feature more than that. It’s our first venture into this medium and we’re making plans on the fly. Keep in mind: Sports are meant to be fun and games, and that’s what our focus will be on.
Also, please welcome Aaron VanTuyl to the sports department. He takes over for Caleb Breakey, who was with us just a short time before returning to the Bellingham area to be closer to family. VanTuyl will not only be covering games and writing features, you can look for his special brand of humor as be begins a local sports blog.

Someone needs to get their facts straight.
Friday's editorial says the show is called "From the Sidelines."
You say the show is called "From the bench."
Which is it?
It will be good to hear and read about local contests this fall.
It's "From the Sidelines" & you can listen to the first show at www.chronline.com/prepsports
Thanks "anonymous." I know it is "From the Sidelines." It's just sad how the person in charge of accuracy within the sports section does such a piss poor job of actually being accurate. That explains why the sports section has so many errors on a day-to-day basis.
Question: Are you Alex Alderson? THE Alex Alderson?
That would be me. I'm having touble with me Blogger account for some reason. That's the only reason for posting as "anonymous." I'd cut the sports dept. some slack. With Fall sports coming up, they've got a lot on their plate right now.
You say this as someone who does work with the Chronicle.
I've lived in Centralia since I was 14. It's not just Fall. And it's nothing person against Sam. I don't know the guy.
Either way, fall is when the paper should be at its very best. That's the chance for the sports section to shine!
(Instead, we had a half page story and photo about Roger Federer yesterday... it's like someone is trying to Fred Flinstone out of the office).
You may or may not know, but I just spent the last two years as a play-by-play broadcaster in professional baseball, last year in the Rockies organization (it was a fun playoff run for the big club). If sports broadcasting is your interest, send me an e-mail anytime: brandon.chapman@del.wa.gov.
I'd be happy to chat about your upcoming career.
Sorry about the running dialog with Alex on this post. I've been in touch with Alex and we'll talk about his career in private :).
Also, I wanted to appologize for ripping into Sam. I was in a bad mood about the Chronicle in general and some of that stems from the publisher himself and isn't directed at Sam, but should be directed about sistemic issues. Sam took the brunt of a public comment. I'll take care of these issues in private. I don't want to go King Chuck on anyone. I realize by and large, Sam has worked hard to serve the community and is probably vastly underpaid for what he does :). Anyway, sorry. Don't mean to be "that guy."
Brandon
there should be ripping of the publisher ... does he always have the best interest of the community in mind, or the best interest of his buddies?
